Wheelchair users celebrated and hated the end of Game of Thrones (and not for the reasons you think)

Warning: This article may contain spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight.

The Game of Thrones phenomenon, a series produced by HBO and based on the books by George RR Martin, has been the talk of the town over the past month, especially since this season was the last and has left its fair share of tastes and disappointments.

For eight years, we've followed the adventures of the characters in Game of Thrones, including the (almost secondary) story of Bran Stark , a child of nobility who, for seeing things he shouldn't have seen, was pushed from a tower and, consequently, lost the ability to walk, but survived certain death. Despite the harshness of a dangerous and hostile world, Bran was able to prosper and reach the top.

While the series finale has sparked controversy, as there are obviously always admirers on both sides, hardly anyone expected that this 20-year-old boy who rode a wooden wheelchair for the last few seasons would be the one to occupy the long-awaited Iron Throne (or the "idea" of it).

While some users with disabilities took it with humor and joy, many others hated this ending and explained their reasonable reasons.

LONG LIVE KING BRAN! THIS IS HOW THE INTERNET REACTED

Bran the Broken , as the character played by Isaac Hempstead-Wright has been controversially named upon becoming King of the Seven Kingdoms (or the six kingdoms), has inspired wheelchair users, journalists and celebrities alike to reflect, make memes or analyze this grand finale.

We've left you a selection below that will show you that there are many perspectives on why what happened ended badly.

According to Lieutenant Dan , a renowned social media influencer and Chilean official working for the labor rights of people with disabilities, he had already anticipated the end of Game of Thrones months ago by taking this photo with his dog.

This Twitter user used irony to point out a structural flaw in his country, where the necessary accessibility for people with disabilities lacks.

According to Emii, the Imperial City will now have to install access ramps for King Bran Stark:

User La_Mielito posted an illustration of herself on the Iron Throne and announced the spoiler with great fanfare, but too prematurely for all her followers, who were annoyed, but only a little.

A SEASON FINALE WHERE DISABILITY WINS? PRAISE INCLUSIVE WESTEROS!

That in the Game of Thrones finale, people with disabilities were the real winners, was the reflection made by blogger Karin Willison , author of The Mighty and world traveler in a wheelchair .

He analyzed that Bran was a completely underestimated character, not only by viewers but also by the participants in this fictional universe.

During the eight years that this series ran, there were many clues that foreshadowed Bran Stark's ultimate fate, however, they were ignored and dismissed, considering that this wheelchair-bound child/young man would never be able to gain a place of power, let alone survive .

For this journalist, people with disabilities are systematically underestimated in our society.

Only Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), who has suffered discrimination all his life for suffering from dwarfism, could see a true king in Bran's heart.

Karin believes that the most oppressed characters in society were the most victorious in Game of Thrones, including bastards, women, and people with disabilities . And this aspect is what she liked most about the grand finale.

He closed his article with this interesting phrase:

The series proved that people with disabilities can be complex, multidimensional characters and that an actor with a disability can become a star. Regardless of what you think about the final season, one thing is clear: in Game of Thrones, people with disabilities rule. And long may they reign.

THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING. THE END OF GAME OF THRONES WAS AN INSULT TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Another different interpretation was that of journalist Lily , from Medium.com , who as a person with a motor disability felt very offended by the final development of Game of Thrones , but more specifically by the meaning that its creators wanted to give it.

Initially, Lily was annoyed by the term Brandon the Broken , a title Tyrion Lannister applied to the new king of Westeros.

Why broken? Did the filmmakers think it was a good idea to convey to millions of viewers the concept that a person in a wheelchair is a broken person ?

The author definitely found this expression horrible, because being disabled for some things is not being broken , it is not being a broken person.

The author felt that even in a fantasy series like Game of Thrones, where there are flying fire-breathing dragons, shape-shifting priestesses, and warriors who replace their faces with masks of human flesh, a disabled person is still a burden, a synonym for disability.

Finally, he emphasized the idea that Bran would be a good ruler "because he could leave no descendants." This is due to another change that would come with the new world order, where succession to the throne would not be hereditary but rather elected by the Lords and Ladies.

Who came up with the idea that because he's wheelchair-bound, Brandon couldn't father children? Why asexualize him?

The journalist allowed herself to say:

Fuck your assumptions and prejudices, Game of Thrones writers!

AND WHAT DID KING BRAN STARK SAY ABOUT ALL THIS?

After all the debate and scandal (to put it mildly), even the actor who played Brandon Stark for eight years gave his opinion to the BBC and confessed that upon reading the script, he thought it was a joke.

Yes, that's right. The first thing Isaac Hempstead thought was that fans of the series had sent in an alternate ending, LOL.

However, although it seemed crazy and bittersweet to him, he understood that the ending is in line with what the author wanted to represent as a reflection of his entire work.

Certain concessions must be made for a new world to be truly new, and since Bran Stark did not desire the throne or power, that ended up making him 100% worthy of it, the same as Tyrion, who had become his advisor, and all the characters who had been loyal, would now occupy an important place in this new society.

A FINAL THOUGHT THAT GEORGE RR MARTIN MAYBE SHOULD TAKE INTO ACCOUNT (OR NOT)

Those of us who do not live with a motor disability may never understand why those who are in wheelchairs or have reduced mobility feel the way they do .

This article attempted to break out of the box and offer a small sampling of the conflicting opinions regarding how this popular series, Game of Thrones, ended.

The truth is that nothing is black or white, there are always gray areas and they usually have a reason.

Will the Game of Thrones books ever be finished? If so, we urge George RR Martin to heed the advice of the series' readers and viewers so that the stories can be fairer and less prejudiced for everyone. Because the reality we are trying to change every day is already unfair and prejudiced.

What do you think? What did you think of the Game of Thrones finale?
