Influencers who will make you rethink the concept of "Senior Citizenship"

Some people claim that old age is that time of life when you go to the pond to feed the ducks with leftover crusts. The reality is that there are people over 60 who appear to be more physically, socially, and sexually active than many of us (and even more charismatic, with a sense of humor, healthy, and photogenic).

We live immersed in a social imaginary that requires labels on how people who have reached maturity should behave and be (well, people in general, let's be honest). And in this sense, at least in the West, we construct a stereotype of old age that tends to be far from cool and trendy . This is parallel to the East, where old age is synonymous with wisdom and power .

Why do we tend to assume that older adults, who are neither artists nor rockers, are light years away from resembling those slender young men with thousands of followers we're used to seeing on social media? We want to tell you that everything you've thought until now is nothing more than a prejudice , and we're going to show you why!

At what age does old age really begin?

According to anthropological and social definitions, the term "old age" refers to the final decades of a person's life . Doesn't this definition sound vague to you? The final decades of life seem like a long time, considering that some people only live hours, days, weeks, months, twenty, or thirty years.

Science explains that during old age, the decline of all the structures developed in previous stages begins. We enter adulthood, and changes occur at the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social levels. Sadly, professionals point out, this age phase has an end point: death.

But the most encouraging thing about this is that we are not definitions in a manual, but thinking and emotional beings who should not and should not experience the stages of life as seasons of the year, or according to science, body aches, prostate pain, menopause, or the number of teeth we have fixed.

Below, we present a series of influencers over 60 who will put a smile on your face and increase your desire to live forever (well, not that long, at least a few more decades).

Susana Aspiunza: At 87, her body is a drawing canvas

Although it may sound incredible, Susana started with her first tattoo just over a year ago . However, today her entire body is practically covered in images that attempt to tell a story and that have a poignant meaning, as they are associated with very difficult moments in her life: her widowhood twice and the death of her son.

Her interest in tattoos arose at an early age, Susana said during an interview for Ciudad Magazine , but it took almost 87 years to become a reality .

"My father had a tattoo on his arm, from his hand to his shoulder, and as a child, it always caught my attention. No man had tattoos, but my father was a sailor." expressed this tattoo enthusiast.

As you can see, Susana goes to the studio twice a week to get a new tattoo, and she confessed that she doesn't plan to stop until she achieves a record, as she wants to become the most tattooed woman in Argentina. In any case, she doesn't see it as a competition, but rather as a pleasure, and she believes that since she started doing it, she feels younger and younger.

For teenagers who thought they couldn't share anything with someone older , Grandma Eulalia has appeared to demystify it.

This is a multifaceted character created by Chilean actress Sonia Prieto , who combines her love of fashion, social media, video games, and her taste for the trap music genre into a super-funny combo suitable for all ages.

With more than 31,000 followers on Instagram, Grandma Eulalia calls herself #viejenials and is establishing herself as a trend in Chile capable of breaking down any age stereotypes.

She has a trap band with other older adults like her, is a fan of the Korean pop band BTS, and plays Fortnite nonstop on her video game console. She also does hilarious unboxings of imported products aimed at a younger audience.

Stylist, image consultant, shopper, and trend-setter are some of the labels that make up the interesting profile of this cosmopolitan Spanish woman. She has the appearance of a modern-day Brigitte Bardot, and her impressive physical appearance dazzles alongside incredible European landscapes.

In each of her posts, she always looks impeccable and dressed in the most beautiful trends and colors. For Isabell, the years don't seem to have passed her by; on the contrary, she seems to grow younger with each photograph.

Florita, Rebel with a Cause

“Fucking shits” is her catchphrase, and it’s surprising how she contrasts her strong character with her fragile, white-haired grandmother appearance.

This Spanish woman breaks the stereotype of the classic grandmother and behaves in front of the camera with the lightness of a teenager. The funniest part is her Instagram stories, which also feature her children and grandchildren, where they constantly place her in awkward situations in which Florita must react with all the energy of her personality.

Although she doesn't manage her social media because she has no idea how anything works—one of her most popular videos being one in which she tries to make coffee in an automatic coffee machine—Florita has all the prominence on her account and doesn't need a selfie stick to be the center of attention.

Grandma Corno, A Grandma Like Everyone Else

Martha is Peruvian and possesses a sweetness that makes you want to hug her and shower her with kisses. She's like the grandmother we all remember and have had, but with the added bonus of handling the camera as if she's been in front of it all her life.

Grandma Corno laughs at herself and says things that many women, both young and old, can relate to. While she does it all with a playful tone, she's quite perceptive and manages a comical double entendre. Although she's just starting out as an influencer, Grandma Corno has all the talent to go far.
