Millions of people with disabilities joined the #bottlecapchallenge, the viral challenge of the year!
The viral Bottle Cap Challenge became a social media sensation, with thousands of users, both famous and not-so-famous, joining in to try to open a bottle with a ninja kick . Although it sounds impossible, almost everyone succeeded, and it's been documented in the thousands of videos circulating online.
Absolutely no one was left behind, and many internet users with various mobility disabilities even joined the challenge. Some with prosthetics, others in wheelchairs; the truth is, everyone tried to participate, turning the #BottleCapChallenge into a diverse and inclusive viral challenge.
At Theramart, we made a video compiling some of the many videos made by users with disabilities, to show that when you set a goal, there are no limits , and that we can all have fun in an environment of equality and tolerance.
What is the Bottle Cap Challenge about and where did it originate?
There have been countless viral challenges so far in 2019, but the most recent, dubbed #BottleCapChallenge , has unleashed a wave of videos on social media , where millions of users tried, with varying degrees of success, to remove a bottle cap using a skillful ninja kick.
The beginning of this viral challenge dates back to July 1st, when famous British actor Jason Statham ( The Transporter, Crank, The Italian Job ) shared a slow-motion video on his Instagram account in which he opens a bottle using a 360º kick. The video has almost 22 million views!
Amazingly, and with the precise impact of the action actor, the cap turns on its screw and flies off to the side as if by magic . A hypnotic feat that quickly spread like wildfire on social media and encouraged countless people to imitate Jason.

The Viral Bottle Challenge began with athletes
What many people don't know is that the first person to post the bottle challenge wasn't Stathan, but rather a martial artist named Farabi Davletchin from Kazakhstan, who challenged and tagged Jason, Irish fighter Conor McGregor, and actors Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jackie Chan in his video.
But while all the challengers share the practice of mixed martial arts, only the first two accepted Farabi's challenge.
Is there any trick to doing the #BottleCapChallenge?
Some people recommend initially loosening the bottle cap slightly so that it comes off easily when touched. You can also have a partner record the feat and add a slow-motion effect to make it more dramatic.
And of course, practice the kick a little to land it and achieve your goal without falling face down. But if you can't do it and miss, it can also be a bit funny , as happened to actor Ryan Reynolds .
There are characters who have been resourceful and have used other elements to execute their skill , such as Logan Dean, from the Marvel movies, who used a sword to remove the lid with frightening perfection.
Or Spanish Paralympic athlete Xavi Torres, who surpassed 42 million views by making a little joke about his prosthetic leg during the #BottleCapChallenge.
